With rain in the forecast this week, it’s a good time to get inside and take in some of the Triangle’s best theatre. Opening this week are the Carole King musical, “Beautiful,” and Meredith Ensemble Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “Death Trap” and “Dracula” close out this weekend, so be sure to catch them before they’re gone!
Beautiful (ONE WEEK ONLY, pictured above) – Sept. 23 – 29, DPAC, Durham – The voice of a generation comes to life onstage in this biopic musical about the life and career of songwriter and performer, Carole King
Death Trap (CLOSING) – Sept. 18 – 26, Wake Forest Renaissance Center, Wake Forest – A successful writer who finds himself struggling and short on cash will stop at nothing – even murder – to improve his fortunes in this 1978 Ira Levin thriller/comedy, staged by Forest Moon Theater
Disgraced – Sept. 16 – Oct. 4, Paul Green Theatre, UNC, Chapel Hill – Playmakers Repertory presents Ayad Akhtar’s Pulitzer and Obie Award-winning 2012 play depicting a dinner party in which the hosts, a Pakistani-American couple, find themselves in a much deeper and more dangerous conversation about politics and religion
Dracula (EXTENDED) – Sept. 11 – Oct. 3, Theatre in the Park, Raleigh – The world’s most famous vampire terrorizes the stage in Ira David Wood III’s adaptation of the Bram Stoker classic
Isn’t It Romantic – Sept. 18 – Oct. 4, Cary Cultural Center, Cary – Two New York Women take on the city, men, friends and family in this 1983 Wendy Wasserstein comedy from Cary Players
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (OPENING) – Sept. 29 – Oct. 4, Studio Theatre, Meredith College, Raleigh – Meredith Ensemble Theatre presents the Shakespeare classic
Operation: BABBLE ON (ONE NIGHT ONLY) – Sept. 25, Mule (in the basement of The Regulator Bookshop), Durham – Black Ops hosts a meet-and-greet with a panel discussion on theatre criticism, its purpose, and its efficacy
