There’s a nice variety of live theatre on tap this week, with the ABBA musical “Mamma Mia!” running over the weekend in Durham, a focus on women in Vietnam in “A Piece of My Heart” at Raleigh Little Theatre, and No Shame Theatre at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro. Mamma Mia! (ONE WEEKEND ONLY, pictured above) – May 5 – 7, DPAC, Durham – The hit Broadway jukebox musical from the 70’s Swedish pop sensation ABBA rolls into town for a short run in Durham
Marjorie Prime – Apr. 27 – May 13, Manbites Dog Theater, Durham – Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison’s 2015 script concerns an elderly woman who connects with an artificial intelligence modeled after her late husband
No Shame Theatre (ONE NIGHT ONLY) – May 6, The ArtsCenter, Carrboro – Comedy sketches, dramatic monologues, songs, dance pieces, rants, dadaist constructions, magicians, juggling, puppets – anything goes at this monthly impromptu jam
On Ice (ONE NIGHT ONLY) – May 6, Hillsborough St., Raleigh – Seed Art Share presents four locally-written short stories, each performed at a different location in and around the Aloft Hotel on Hillsborough Street, inspired by various cocktails
A Piece of My Heart (OPENING) – May 5 – 21, Raleigh Little Theatre, Raleigh – RLT’s Women in War series presents Shirley Lauro’s powerful true drama about six women who went to Vietnam, exploring their lives before, during and after the conflict
Revival (CLOSING) – Apr. 2 – May 7, Ward Theatre Company, Durham – Ward Theatre stages a cultural and musical collage set in 1950’s Appalachia
