Have you heard of sketch comedy troupe Mettlesome? They open their newest set, “Two Months In,” at The ArtsCenter this week. Be sure to also get Eve Ensler’s “Emotional Creature” on your calendar – it’s playing at Sonorous Road Theatre in Raleigh this weekend only.
Other openings more suitable for families include “13, The Musical” at NRACT, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Theatre Raleigh, and Transactors Improv explore the fantasy genre at the ArtsCenter.

13, The Musical (OPENING) – Mar. 10 – 26, North Raleigh Arts & Creative Theatre, Raleigh – The excitement of turning 13 turns into chaos as a youngster’s parents divorce and he moves to the country in this coming-of-age story from Jason Robert Brown, Dan Ellish, and Robert Horn
Crumbs from the Table of Joy (CLOSING) – Mar. 3 – 12, PSI Theater, Durham Arts Council, Durham – Bartlett Theater follows the journey of an African American family moving from the American South to Brooklyn in 1950 in Lynn Nottage’s 1995 drama
Emotional Creature (ONE WEEK ONLY) – Mar. 10 – 12, Sonorous Road Theatre, Raleigh – Eve Ensler’s adaptation of her own book, “I am an Emotional Creature,” looks at stories about and for girls around the world in a presentation of monologues and songs
LITE 2017 (OPENING) – Mar. 9 – 16, various locations in Cary and Morrisville – Eight one-act plays from mostly local playwrights make up this collection intended to make audiences laugh (L), be inspired (I), think (T), and be encouraged (E), with subject matter ranging from late-night TV commercials to pets to the Grim Reaper
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (OPENING) – Mar. 9 – 19, Kennedy Theatre, Raleigh – Theatre Raleigh’s presents the first of its Family Series, introducing young audiences to Shakespeare’s masterpiece of faeries, magic, and love on the rocks
This is Not a Novel (CLOSING) – Mar. 2 – 11, Scrap Exchange ReUse Arts Center, Durham – Little Green Pig lets audiences wander at their own pace through “a delirious playscape for adults” based on four novels by David Markson in an experimental installation of sights, sounds, and performers
Transactors Improv: For Families! (ONE NIGHT ONLY) – Mar. 11, The ArtsCenter, Carrboro – The Transactors riff on worlds of fantasy and the imagination in this family-friendly set of short form improvisation
Twelfth Night – Mar. 1 – 19, Paul Green Theatre, UNC, Chapel Hill – Shakespeare’s classic comedy takes the stage at Playmakers, full of mistaken identities, cross-dressing, misdirected lust, and drunken debauchery
Two Months In (OPENING, pictured above) – Mar. 10 – 18, The ArtsCenter, Carrboro – New sketch comedy troupe Mettlesome takes stock of the first two months of the Trump Administration and attempts to Make American Laugh Again, with appearances by the NC General Assembly and the Ghostbusters, among others
