The TIP faithful will be out for “A Christmas Carol” or “Santaland Diaries,” Broadway Series South hosts “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” Common Ground Theatre takes a bow with “A Trailer Park Christmas,” or you can catch sketch comedy Moonlight Stage’s “Eclipse” or Transactors Improv’s “Big City Christmas.”
If Christmas entertainment is not your thing, Triangle companies have done a bang-up job of covering you this year, with Women’s Theatre Festival opening “Little Women,” Little Green Pig’s “Ethelred the Unready,” Black Ops’ “The Typographer’s Dream,” Burning Coal’s “Written on the Heart,” or Playmakers’ “The May Queen.

A Christmas Carol (OPENING) – Dec. 7 – 11, Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, Raleigh – Theatre in the Park’s 42nd annual production, a twist on the Charles Dickens classic, opens in Raleigh this week before heading to Durham next week
Cinderella – Dec. 2 – 18, Raleigh Little Theatre, Raleigh – RLT’s annual holiday production brings sparkle and magic to the classic fairytale
Eclipse: Sketch Comedy (ONE WEEKEND ONLY) – Dec. 9 – 10, Moonlight Stage Company, Raleigh – Moonlight Stage hosts two nights of live sketch comedy intended for audiences 16 and up
Ethelred the Unready – Dec. 1 & 3 at Living Arts Collective, Durham; Dec. 2 at University Theatre, Raleigh – Dana Marks wrote and performs in this solo piece about a medieval British monarch who is ill-prepared to govern
Little Women (OPENING, pictured above) – Dec. 8 – 18, Sonorous Road Theatre, Raleigh – The Women’s Theatre Festival (WTF) is back with the musical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s semi-autobiographical story of sisters persevering through the Civil War – and there will be tea and cakes!
The May Queen (CLOSING) – Nov. 22 – Dec. 11, Paul Green Theatre, UNC, Chapel Hill – An unexpected high school reunion meets “The Office” when a nineties prom queen re-emerges from a mysterious disappearance in this Playmakers Repertory production of Molly Smith Metzler’s 2014 comedy
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – Nov. 25 – Dec. 24, Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, Raleigh – The adaptation of the beloved 1964 television special dashes and dances onto the stage in this Broadway Series South annual production
Santaland Diaries (OPENING) – Dec. 9 – 18, Theatre in the Park, Raleigh – Raleigh author and comedian David Sedaris wrote this sugarplum, but definitely not for the kids
A Trailer Park Christmas (OPENING) – Dec. 8 – 18, Common Ground Theatre, Durham – The final theatrical run at Common Ground comes from the mind of its founder, Rachel Klem, and Jeffrey Moore for its ninth year
Transactors Improv: Big City Christmas (ONE NIGHT ONLY) – Dec. 10, The ArtsCenter, Carroboro – Five slice-of-life in the city episodes (with singing) based on audience suggestions take place in this holiday two-act celebration
The Typographer’s Dream – Dec. 1 – 17, Manbites Dog Theater, Durham – A stenographer, a geographer, and a typographer expound on their careers’ highs and lows in Adam Bock’s 2002 comedy, a collaboration between Black Ops Theatre and Manbites Dog
Written on the Heart – Dec. 1 – 18, Burning Coal Theatre, Raleigh – David Edgar’s 2011 play details the 80 year-long struggle to create an English translation of the Bible to be read and understood by common people
