Eclipse: An Evening of One Act Plays (ONE WEEKEND ONLY) – Oct. 10 & 11, Moonlight Stage Company, Raleigh – Moonlight Stage Company debuts its new black box studio with an evening of original shorts
Failure: A Love Story (ONE WEEK ONLY) – Oct. 9 – 13, Kenan Theatre, UNC, Chapel Hill – The Kenan Theatre Company opens its season with Philip Dawkins’ quirky drama about the last year of the Fail Sisters’ lives, in 1928
In Their Shoes: An Evening of Theatre Exploring Violence Against Women (CLOSING) – Oct. 3 – 11, Common Ground Theatre, Durham – MOJOAA Performing Arts Company presents a timely pair of original one-act plays, “From the Boot of Timberland” and “Good Brother,” that delve into abuse in relationships and the exchanges between oppressor and oppressed
Into the Breach (OPENING) – Oct. 10 – 19, The ArtsCenter, Carrboro – ArtsCenter Stage presents the world premiere by Triangle playwright Ian Bowater, in which five young men who performed in a production of Shakespeare’s Henry V are reunited as soldiers in the trenches of World War I
Kraftwerkshop (ONE WEEKEND ONLY, FREE) – Oct. 10 – 12, Paperhand Puppet Studio, Haw River Ballroom, Saxapahaw – Little Green Pig creates and unveils Stage One of its upcoming original production, The Kraftwerk Project – a series of devised works based on and inspired by the music of electronic pioneers Kraftwerk – as part of Saxapahaw’s Oktoberfest celebration; culminating in a free performance Oct. 12
Leap of Faith (CLOSING) – Oct. 3 – 12, University Theatre, NCCU, Durham – NC Central’s theatre department opens its season with the musical based on the hit film of the same name, in which an unscrupulous faith healer unexpectedly finds love and sees the light
Over the Top (ONE WEEKEND ONLY) – Oct. 10 & 11, Studio 6 Swain Hall, UNC, Chapel Hill – The Process Series reimagines World War I as a garden party in which the guests are all nation states whose relationships and allegiances play out in an interactive game with the audience
The Phantom of the Opera (OPENING) – Oct. 8 – 19, DPAC, Durham – Andrew Lloyd Weber’s smash hit musical features a re-invisioned design by Cameron Mackintosh in this touring production
Steel Magnolias (OPENING) – Oct. 10 – 26, North Raleigh Arts & Creative Theatre (NRACT), Raleigh – Truvy’s beauty salon comes to life onstage as six Southern women share gossip, secrets, fears, and love for each other in the popular Robert Harling play
