Bare Theatre sets its sights on an oft-overlooked play from the Bard of Stratford that is a favorite among many actors and theatre practitioners (not to mention the poet John Keats). Cymbeline is an epic story of love, deception, betrayal, jealousy and war that contains comedy, romance, and revenge.
Imogen, the royal daughter of Cymbeline, King of the Britons, has secretly married the valiant and handsome Posthumus. Cymbeline, enraged to discover the marriage, banishes Posthumus. Cymbeline’s wicked queen plots against Imogen and Cymbeline so her crude son Cloten can take the throne. Deception and betrayal follow as the Britons prepare to battle against the Roman Empire.
The production draws on elements from various time periods to create an immersive, transformative experience using little more than the room, audience, actors, and the text.
